Sourcing M&E Resident Engineers to oversee two high-profile data centre projects

    LOCATION: Denmark

    TYPE: Contract

    THE COMPANY:

A leading engineering design consultancy which specialises in sustainable engineering and design solutions for the built environment and carries out major data centre projects across Europe.

    THE CHALLENGE:

The company was responsible for the MEP design of two data centre projects in Copenhagen on behalf of a world-leading technology firm.

Both projects were at a vital stage of construction, but the technology firm was keen to have additional oversight over the project and wanted people who could represent its interests on the projects, ensuring that the projects ran smoothly and hit their key milestones.

To achieve this, the client was looking to hire two highly experienced M&E Resident Engineers on 18-month contracts.

Aylin White’s relationship with the client began when it helped the company find a mission critical hire ten years before. Due to the success of this project, the company used Aylin White for its subsequent projects, leading to a highly successful on-going partnership that has now lasted a decade.

Over the course of this partnership, Aylin White has helped the company recruit mission critical staff across Europe, in locations such as the UK, Madrid, Warsaw, London, Sweden and Denmark.

Aylin White’s extensive network and detailed local knowledge, its experience of working on similar projects, and sophisticated understanding of the relevant tax and legal implications made it the first port of call for the client as it looked to fill these key positions.

    THE ROLE:

Two experienced M&E Resident Engineers who would be able to oversee the development of two high-profile data centre projects, and ensure they were installed according to the design.

    THE SERVICE:

Aylin White began by leading the discovery process and establishing the requirements. The regulatory landscape for hiring skilled M&E Resident Engineering staff in Denmark had become significantly more complex since Brexit, and the client asked Aylin White to advise them on Nordic tax rates, benchmarks, payroll and work permits. After agreeing a timeframe of 2 months, Aylin White set to work to build the company a detailed shortlist of the best available candidates.

Aylin White’s team of EU Contract specialists began by leveraging Aylin White’s extensive network of M&E Resident Engineers to identify suitable candidates, ensuring the client was kept up to date throughout. The team set to work reaching out to Aylin White’s extensive network of suitable contacts, requesting referrals and conducting a traditional online headhunt.

Whenever a suitable candidate was identified, the team carefully vetted them to ensure that they met the requirements stipulated by the client and confirm that that they would be interested in working in Denmark, where the tax rates are relatively high.

On sourcing a compelling shortlist of candidates, the team worked alongside the client to provide full profile and pre-interview information along with a full breakdown of the tax and contractual implications of hiring each person.

    THE RESULT:

All three candidates were highly skilled and experienced, came with excellent recommendations, and looked as if they would be a superb fit with the client’s culture. The client was extremely pleased with the quality of the shortlisted candidates and progressed all three to a final interview stage.

Following the final interview, the client selected two of the shortlisted candidates for the roles.

Following this, Aylin White continued to liaise with the client and the selected candidates to ensure that the groundwork was laid for them to begin their roles. This involved ensuring their work permits were correct, negotiating relevant rates and expenses with the client, and providing any advice necessary to ensure the candidates were able to start work without a hitch.

Since being hired, the selected candidates have received glowing references from the client and have been instrumental in keeping both the client’s projects on track. These projects are now nearing completion, but the two hires are still involved and the client has indicated that it would be strongly interested in rehiring them if suitable projects come along.
