Sustainability Lead

4 Days a Week in Central London Office, 1 Day from Home

£70,000 – £75,000 + Package

37.5 Hour Week

Position Overview:

  • Reporting to the Design Manager you will play a pivotal role in expanding both the Design and Sustainability Team, playing a crucial role in developing and implementing innovative strategies that align to the Environmental Sustainability Goals (ESG) that our client has identified as part of their Net Zero Carbon strategy.
  • The role will include measuring, tracking, reporting, and where possible developing strategies aimed at reducing embodied and operational carbon.
  • You will play a pivotal role in helping deliver more sustainable projects, by contributing to the implementation of low/no carbon materials and low energy engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of bespoke embodied carbon analysis methodologies to meet project requirements – could require existing software processes, or development of new tools.
  • Liaise with our clients supply chain and manufacturers to develop a library of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) that can be used to determine the embodied carbon contribution to projects
  • .Contribute to the delivery of our clients Net Zero Carbon (both Embodied carbon and operational carbon) strategy through Zero Carbon Roadmaps, decarbonisation strategies, policy development and project design.
  • Provide narrative content and graphical content to support the pitching for new work and explaining what we do in relation to embodied carbon, whole life carbon and net zero.
  • To assist in setting out the embodied carbon, LCA and whole life carbon R&D required to further improve and develop our clients service offerings.
  • Review tender information to ensure the clients ERs are achievable and where feasible, suggest enhancements to improve the sustainability targets for a project.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to carbon emissions, reduction strategies, and compliance with regulatory standards and Client policies.
  • Assist in preparing strategies and responses to prequalification questionnaires and project tender bid requirements and deliverables.
  • Assist in presenting the proposed solutions and our clients internal policies and development to the Clients and supply chain.
  • Assist in fulfilling clients requirements in proving business sustainability credentials.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant environmental regulations and standards.
  • Keep abreast of evolving regulations and standards related to carbon emissions and communicate necessary changes to stakeholders.
  • Assist in monitoring and fulfilling sustainability requirements and environmental accreditation schemes such and BREEAM, WELL and NABERS.
  • Provide high-quality consultancy services, providing clear and applicable guidance and recommendations, allowing projects to realise their potential.

Where necessary, assist and support the Environmental Sustainability Manager to:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to design and develop operational and embodied carbon monitoring and reduction engineering solutions.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to quantify carbon emissions across project operations.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal and external stakeholders on carbon reduction strategies and initiatives.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to increase awareness of carbon footprint, energy use and environmental certification.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining an edge from competitors by demonstrating best practice in carbon reduction and energy efficiency.
  • Increase company-wide understanding, knowledge, and support for carbon reduction journey.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop customized sustainability plans and identify opportunities for embodied carbon and emission reduction.

Person Specification:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in building services engineering, environmental science or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of embodied and operational carbon in construction industry.
  • Experience in conducting carbon emissions assessments, reporting and developing carbon reduction strategies.
  • Proficiency in utilizing software tools and modelling techniques related to carbon engineering.
  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks, environmental regulations, and reporting standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and analyse complex data.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
