Lead Design Manager

THE COMPANY

A global M&E engineering consultancy with multiple offices in Europe, America and Asia. The UK team is currently looking for a lead design manager to join their central London office. The company focuses on mission critical projects and operating across data centre and life sciences sectors.

THE ROLE

  • The Lead Design Manager will manage the design process from a technical perspective.
  • The Lead Design Manager will manage, mentor and lead the project team.
  • The Lead Design Manager will ensure compliance and quality assurance of project performance.
  • The Lead Design Manager will ensure projects are run in line with timelines and budgets.
  • The Lead Design Manager will contribute to the commercial and business planning process.
  • The Lead Design Manager will conduct project and contract reviews to ensure that contractual obligations are met.
  • The Lead Design Manager will make sure that design and project procedures are implemented and followed by the design team.
  • The Lead Design Manager will monitor the design process and identify risks.
  • The Lead Design Manager will be involved in managing and updating sub-consultants’ contracts.
  • The Lead Design Manager will produce project reports and tracking documents to the client’s requirements, manage input from others

REQUIREMENTS

  • The Lead Design Manager will be educated to a degree level and will hold a relevant qualification in mechanical or electrical (civil or structural engineering might be considered depending on project experience).
  • The Lead Design Manager will be a chartered professional.
  • The Lead Design Manager will have extensive and demonstrable experience in development and implementation of design management tools and procedures.
  • The Lead Design Manager must have experience of managing teams and mentoring others.
  • The Lead Design Manager will have the ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The Lead Design Manager will have proven experience of using calculation and spreadsheet software.
  • The Lead Design Manager must have a large-scale design management experience (e.g. life sciences, data centre, airports, rail).
  • The Lead Design Manager will be comfortable leading and growing a team.
  • The Lead Design Manager will have a working knowledge of contract law.
  • The Lead Design Manager will be proficient in using design management tools such as trackers for actions, information requests, deliverables, client comments and variations.
  • The Lead Design Manager will preferably come from a consultancy background.
