Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
CONTRACT ROLE – OUTSIDE IR35 – ASAP START
This engineering consultancy is looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join them on an exciting Data Centre project in Canary Wharf, London.
The engineering consultancy has been appointed to review Stage 4 design, so it will be a role with heavy involvement with the contractor and the client team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PRINCIPAL MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
- The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will review designs and provide feedback, challenging the consultancy’s design where necessary.
- Look for opportunities for value engineering when reviewing designs.
- Be able to train and support more junior staff when necessary.
- Contribute to managements of commercial, financial, environmental aspects of projects.
- The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will attend internal and external meetings.
- Build good relationships with clients and contractors.
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND OF THE PRINCIPAL MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
- The Principal Mechanical design engineer will have a degree in mechanical engineering or building services.
- At least 5-8 years as Senior Mechanical Design Engineer if current job title.
- The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will have experience on several data centre project either providing detailed design and/or reviewing detailed design.
- Working knowledge of UK standards and experience in an engineering consultancy.
- Demonstrable ability to delegate to others, share knowledge and provide feedback.
- The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will demonstrate technical competence and experience
- Experience representing a business and participating in external and internal meetings.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
